Yveltal is the winged cover star for Pokemon Y on Nintendo 3DS and is instantly recognizable by any die-hard Pokemon fan. The Nintendo 3DS game was launched in 2013 and introduced players to the Kalos region. Yveltal is closely related to Xerneas, the cover star for Pokemon X that also joined Pokemon Go in recent years.

Yveltal Raid Counters

Lapras is a Tier 5 Raid Pokemon. When caught after a raid, his maximum CP reaches up to 2160, or 2700 CP if it's currently basking in its weather boost.

The difficulty of running a Yveltal Raid is fairly standard for a Tier 5 Raid. You need 2 extremely experienced people with top counters or a team of 3 with okay Pokemon. From 4 people all the way down to 20, the raid becomes much, much easier to handle. Yveltal generally gets beaten by top Electric-, Fairy-, Ice-, and Rock-type Pokemon such as Zekrom, Mega Manectric, Therian Forme Thundurus, and Rhyperior.

Below you will find our recommendations.

Mega Counters

  • Mega Manectric with Charge Beam (Quick Attack) and Wild Charge (Charge Move)
  • Mega Ampharos with Charge Beam (Quick Attack) and Zap Cannon (Charge Move)
  • Mega Abnomasnow with Powder Snow (Quick Attack) and Weather Ball Ice (Charge Move)

Regular Counters

  • Zekrom with Charge Beam (Quick Attack) and Wild Charge (Charged Attack)
  • Rhyperion with Smack Down (Quick Attack) and Rock Wrecker (Charged Attack)
  • Rampardos with Smack Down (Quick Attack) and Rock Wrecker (Charged Attack)
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down (Quick Attack) and Stone Edge (Charged Attack)
  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang (Quick Attack) and Avalanche (Charged Attack)
  • Electivire with Thunder Shock (Quick Attack) and Wild Charge (Charged Attack)

Yveltal PVP Counters

Yveltal focuses on quick energy generation and pressuring shields using its charge moves. Yveltal is protected against Groudon, Zarude, and Focus Blast Mewtwo thanks to his Flying typing, which makes him a great pick for the current meta.

Yveltal's biggest problem is how common Zacians and Togekisss are in the Master League. Using Hurricane instead of Focus Blast to compete with them means you lose coverage against Steel-type Pokemon.

That being said, here are some of Yveltal's best counters:

  • Zacian with Snarl (Quick Attack) and Play Rough or Wild Charge (Charged Attack)
  • Deoxys (Defense Forme) with Counter (Quick Attack) and Rock Slide (Charged Attack)
  • Togekiss with Charm (Quick Attack) and Ancient Power (Charged Attack)
  • Registeel with Lock-On (Quick Attack) and Zap Cannon (Charged Attack)
  • Zarud with Vine Whip (Quick Attack) and Power Ship (Charged Attack)
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down (Quick Attack) and Stone Edge (Charged Attack)
  • Zekrom with Charge Beam (Quick Attack) and Wild Charge (Charged Attack)
  • Excadrill with Mud Shot (Quick Attack) and Rock Slide (Charged Attack)
  • Metagross with Thunder Shock (Quick Attack) and Rock Slide (Charged Attack)

And then there are some less likely foes you could see in PVP, I guess:

  • Regigigas Rock Smash | Focus Blast
  • Thundurus Thunder Shock | Focus Blast
  • Terrakion Smack Down | Sacred Sword

Yveltal is an excellent pick for PVP Pokemon Combat. Despite being weak to some rock and fairy type moves, which are very much in the meta right now. Master League is where it shines the most. And he can easily compete with some of the best there are there. But be sure to build a team that can protect your Yveltal from occasional Zacians and Togekisss.

I think Zacian with Snarl quick attack and play rough or wild charge charged attacks with is the best overall counter pick to a Yveltal, taking typing into consideration. Zacian is a very consistent meta pick for the Master Leagues, and his arsenal of fairy-type moves will obliterate Yveltal without any problem.
